Looking back at NFL Week One

Sports Rap-UpWhat's up, hip hop fans? "Word" Thomas is back like the NFL, hitting you up with that Sports Rap. It's a great week for sports as America's favorite game is back and tempers flared up in women's tennis to the tune of $10,000. So let's go get it...

In the NFL, there were several standout performances like Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints. Homie tore through the Detroit Lions defense by throwing six touchdowns and going for 350+ yards. I'm sure those Motown kitty cats will be glad to get out of the Big Easy after that thrashing.

In Cleveland, Minnesota's Adrian "All Day" Peterson ran the Browns ragged by unleashing a three touchdown and 180 yard rushing game. It even overshadowed the debut/return of Brett Favre. "Word" is sure Favre had no problems handing off to Peterson all game. He can collect his $11 million quite easily with that stud on his team.

Speaking of much-anticipated debuts, Mark Sanchez began his career with the New York Jets by throwing a touchdown on 272 yards. His Jets beat the Houston Texans 24-7. He was aided by a 107 yard rushing game by tough running back Thomas Jones. Now that debut was hotter than the Keri Hilson CD. Way to go, rookie!

The most pathetic and forgettable debut went to Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. He threw four interceptions in a 21-15 loss to the Green Bay Packers. They say Cutler is a crybaby and deserved this outcome. He's a good QB that just had a bad game against a pretty good defense. Cutler will have his revenge and bounce back next week.

The Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers got off to a good start as they squeaked out a tough win versus the Tennessee Titans. Before getting hurt in the second quarter, Troy Polamalu was having an all-world game. He made several great tackles and had a leaping, one-handed interception of an under-thrown ball by Titans QB Kerry Collins. The Steelers starting safety is out, but they are not down. The Steelers are 6-2 without Polamalu for his career, so he'll return like a free agent signing and only make the defense that much better.

Not to leave the ladies out of the equation, in women's tennis, Serena Williams lost a big U.S. Open match to eventual champ Kim Clijsters when she had a temper tantrum and threatened a side judge by allegedly telling her she would "love to stick a tennis ball down her f*#@ing throat!" When I first heard this, my reaction was it's about time one of those Compton, California Williams girls let the "hood" come out.

But on the other hand, Serena, I love you, but that was so classless. I've read that you experience racism on the tennis tour, but you must have grace when dealing with it. They believe you will act like that anyway, but don't give them any more reasons to confirm their suspicions. Plus, it cost you $10,000 in fines! "Word" hasn't seen that much anger since Tupac was rapping "Hit"em Up."

That's my word, hip hop, and I'm sticking to it....PEACE!
