Fashion Mogul Dropped Due to Overspending 3:00PM ET August 26th, 2010 Contributor : Jecquea Howsie A Rocky Williform Company
Kimora may be fabulous, but how much was her fabulosity costing her former employers? According to the New York post, Kimora Lee Simmons didn’t quit her position at Baby Phat, she was fired—okay well maybe that’s harsh, nicely put, they asked her to step down.
Apparently the Kellwood Company was tired of footing Kimora’s bill. An unnamed source says, “She was blindsided that Kellwood fired everyone," said one. But another Baby Phat insider said that it could have been a way to slash costs: "Kimora was going over-budget. She'd pay herself a fee to be in the ads, plus she paid her children fees to appear in ads. It costs thousands of dollars to airbrush her because she's a size 10. Plus, they spent a ton of money on body doubles. They would shoot another model in the clothes, and take Kimora's head and put in on her body."
Reports are surfacing that Ms. Baby Phat is actually thinking of suing the company, but of course when asked about the potential lawsuit, Kellwood had no comment. It seems though Kimora is also keeping her lips closed, the only thing she will say is that, “it's time for me to move on and further expand my other businesses."
This story just got a whole lot jucier.
