The Red Hot Chili Peppers were among the first rock bands to embrace hip hop. Frontman Anthony Keidis often 'rapped' his lyrics as opposed to singing them, and bassist Flea contributed the bassline to Young MC's classic single "Bust A Move." Keidis and Flea also famously appeared in Ice Cube's "Wicked" video as skinheads.
Flea recently spoke about Erykah Badu exposing him to the breadth of legendary producer J. Dilla's body of work.
"She [Erykah Badu] got me hooked. And for, like, the last month that’s all I’ve listened to," Flea told AllHipHop. "[It] brought me to tears because of how beautiful it is," Flea told AllHipHop.com. "I discovered – growing up Jimi Hendrix was my big thing…like, almost like a guiding light to believe in. And that’s how it started out with Dilla, man. It’s just, like, right now it’s kind of consuming me."
