''There's No Need To Fight What's Not True''

When Alicia Keys linked up with Swizz Beatz while he was still technically married to his first wife, Mashonda, the superstar singer/songwriter had to endure arguably the first major backlash of her career. Keys was branded a 'homewrecker,' and with Mashonda issuing statements blasting her and some of her previously devoted fanbase turning on her, Keys remained silent on the issue.

But she speaks on the controversy in her latest interview with Jet magazine. And Keys says that people got it wrong.

"[They] were apart for some time before we ever got together," Keys claimed.

"That doesn’t matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down," she added. "There’s no need to fight what’s not true."
