Actress Required Back & Neck Surgery

Rosie Perez recently made an appearance at the White House in a wheelchair and neck brace prompting even President Obama to ask the actress and former dancer/choreographer "What happened?"

Perez performed a stunt during a taping of "Law & Order: SVU" that required her to be shaken vigorously. The actress said she felt a pain in her neck, but kept going with the scene--even enduring the pain for two more takes. After the pain increased, she realized something was wrong and upon examination it was revealed that the actress had sustained both a slipped disc and a bulging disc in her back.

For a year, she looked to find an alternative to surgery, but there was none--so she had bone marrow and neck surgery. The surgery left her with scars, but she was still able to make the trip to the White House to discuss for a forum discussing the battle against HIV/AIDS.

When Obama learned that Rosie hurt herself performing her own stunt, he asked her jokingly, "Don't they have professionals for that?" Perez replied that she wanted to do her own stunt, and the Prez quipped, "Obviously, you're not very good at it!"
