Abu Thiam

Abu ThiamDespite his age, Abu Thiam has already forged a career in the music industry that many gray-haired executives would envy.

Before being named to his current position as Vice President of Def Jam, Thiam, as the co-CEO of Konvict Musik, discovered and has guided the careers of superstars T-Pain Lady Gaga. He's long been an instrumental force in the career of his older brother, Grammy-award winner Akon, and together they also run KonLive, which is home to Kardinal Offishall and Colby O'Donis, among others.

Thiam began his musical career as a Hype Man for a rapper named Lil' Zane and for Da Razkalz Cru (two of whom are now signed to Konvict Records) and for Loon who at the time was signed to Bad Boy Records. He soon worked his way up in the industry and eventually was named an A&R at Def Jam.

One of the youngest executives in the industry, Thiam was named senior vice president of Def Jam in 2009. Thiam’s current label, BuVision is a joint venture with Def Jam that is already developing a young roster of talent with new talents like Sean Teezy and Rachel Assil.

Thiam is currently guiding the production and completion of pop superstar Rihanna’s next album, tentatively-titled Loud.
