After over 15 years in hip hop, Common's visibility and cache are at an all-time high. The Chicago-born emcee has become one of the bigger crossover stars in hip hop, all the while maintaining his credibility within the genre and culture and solidifying his reputation as a thoughtful rapper with a conscious.
Common has worked extensively with fellow Chicago star Kanye West and, as one of G.O.O.D. Music's most famous signees, serves as a mentor-figure to the newer artists on the label's roster. He even appeared as 'the narrator' on G.O.O.D. music star Kid Cudi's debut album, The Man In the Moon.
He's been a vocal supporter of President Barack Obama, took part in the "Knowing Is Beautiful" HIV Awareness campaign and has supported ending homophobic lyrics in hip hop music.
The rapper's acting career has also gained momentum over the past year. He appeared in the Steve Carell/Tina Fey vehicle Date Night and starred opposite Queen Latifah in the romantic comedy Just Wright. It was also announced that Common would be starring in a new AMC series called "Hell On Wheels."
