"Cousin" Jeff Johnson
By Todd Williams Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
Since his appearances on "Rap City" in the early 2000s, "Cousin" Jeff Johnson has emerged as one of the most respected cultural commentators of the hip hop generation. The motivational speaker and activist appeared last year at the Iowa State Conference of Race & Ethnicity, Johnson has worked as a senior advisor for media and youth outreach for People for the American Way, national director of the Youth and College Division of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and as the vice president of Russell Simmons' Hip Hop Summit Action Network.

The Cleveland native has published social and political content for CNN, TheRoot.com and several other notable news sites, and his book Everything I'm Not Made Me Everything I Am is a call to service for the post-Civil Rights generation. Johnson is also currently a featured commentator on race, politics, economics and pop culture for MSNBC, CNN, Sirius Satellite Radio and The Dr. Phil Show. His reputation as a thoughtful commentator has also led to numerous opportunities to speak to young people around the country on hip hop panels, symposiums and awareness rallies.

Johnson was selected by the British Council to be among 30 young leaders, from various locales in Europe and America, to be apart of its Transatlantic 2020 team to begin a new cross-border dialogue to reinvigorate traditional alliances and mend transatlantic rifts.
