Andre "Dr. Dre" Young
By Mathis Bauchner Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
Andre With his long-awaited Detox album still among the most highly anticipated releases in popular music, Dr. Dre status as hip hop's most beloved and respected producer remains intact. For almost any other artist in hip hop, an eleven year (and counting) gap between releases would be career suicide; but the man responsible for bringing Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and Eminem to the masses gets a pass from fans due to his stellar track record.

The producer-turned-mogul has left his fingerprints all over the music industry this year; scoring a massive hit with Eminem’s Recovery, released via his label Aftermath. It was also announced that The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers will honor Dr. Dre with its Founders Award. The legendary beatsmith also landed at number five on Forbes' 2010 Hip Hop Cash Kings list with earnings of $17 million.

Also in 2010, Dre’s headphone brand, Beats By Dr. Dre, teamed up with HP to release a limited edition laptop that is reported to sell for $2,299 retail.

"I am living an incredible life,” Dre said at the 2010 ASCAP Awards. “I mean being able to make a living doing what I love, it’s incredible—and to have so many people enjoy it for so many years, man I can’t even explain to you how good that feels.”
