 Antoine Fuqua parlayed a storied career directing music videos for talents like Toni Braxton, Prince, Usher and more. He was a young video director who used savvy to ease his way into filmmaking. “When [film producer] Jerry Bruckheimer saw my stuff and asked me to do a ‘Gangster Paradise’ video for [the film] Dangerous Minds, I said I’d only do it if he got Michelle Pfeiffer to be in it," Fuqua said in a 2010 interview. "And she did.” Transitioning into films like 2001s acclaimed Training Day, Fuqua continued to build his impressive filmography in 2010 with the gritty Brooklyn’s Finest, which opened at #2 and grossed $27,163,593.
Also in 2010, Fuqua was tapped to helm a series of hip hop-themed ads for iconic shoe company, Converse. Entitled "The Procession," the ads debuted the new Star Player Evo shoe and featured rappers like Doug E. Fresh and Jim Jones.
Also in 2010, Fuqua began filming the eagerly-awaited biopic of the late Tupac Shakur and was also tapped to direct the spy thriller Consent to Kill for CBS films, which stars Gerard Butler, Colin Ferrell and Bruce Willis.
Fuqua has also announced production on a film detailing the life and times of one of the most notorious drug kingpins in history, Pablo Escobar.. |
