U.K. rapper Dizzee Rascal is one of hip hop's biggest British stars. Credited with bringing British 'grime' to the mainstream music audiences in England, the East London-born emcee is still one of the biggest stars and greatest ambassadors of the genre. Dizzee's fourth album, Tongue N' Cheek, was released in September of 2009 and produced four number one hits in the UK.: "Dance Wiv Me," "Holiday," "Bonkers" and "Dirtee Disco." At the 30th Annual Brit Award, Dizzee took home the award for Best British Male and his charity collaboration with Florence & the Machine, "You Got the Dirtee Love," peaked at number 2 in the UK charts.
Dizzee Rascal finally made his first appearance on the U.S. charts with "Loca" another collaboration, this time with Colombian pop superstar Shakira, which hit #98 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2010,
Cementing his status as one of the U.K.'s most respected and influential artists, Rascal's label, Dirtee Stank, regularly signs and promotes other British hip hop stars like the Newham Generals and Smurfie Syco. The rapper has stated that the goal of the label is to 'promote gifted artists with "social problems' that might keep them from signing with other labels. His cache is so tremendous with the urban youth that he has been the subject of criticism and scrutiny from members of British parliament and was even asked by media personality Jeremy Paxman if he'd ever consider a run for office.
