Vanessa Satten

Vanessa SattenXXL is the most respected print publication in hip hop, and online, the brand is no less iconic and influential to urban audiences. Older hip hop titles may have faded into obscurity, compromised their credibility, lost touch with their demo or just flat-out gone under, but XXL still stands strong on newsstands around the world.

XXL is guided by the talented and driven Vanessa Satten, who took over as editor-in-chief at XXL after former EIC Datwon Thomas resigned.

Satten is quite the hands-on editor, helping to develop and directly contributing to features such as the 2010 XXL Freshman Class. Satten also landed notables for the XXL cover, including Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane and Lil Wayne.

For the popular cover of Nicki Minaj, Satten herself conducted the interview with the popular femcee; and traveled to Belize to personally interview formerly incarcerated rapper Shyne.

As other print publications have faltered, Satten has helped XXL maintain its standing among its readership and in heading its push online, she has also assured the brand's ongoing relevancy into the foreseeable future.
