Nahala "Mr. Boomtown" Johnson
By Lisa Ann Duncan Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
Nahala Mr. Boomtown has quickly become the go-to director for many of the biggest names in southern hip hop. He has been behind the lens for some of Texas' most celebrated acts, including Bun B, Slim Thug and others. In 2009 alone, Mr. Boomtown directed over 30 videos for veterans like Scarface and younger acts like Lil Boosie; and even directed five videos in five days for Atlanta star Gucci Mane.

The prolific director has become known for his ability to get quality work done quickly and East Coast acts like Juelz Santana and Lloyd Banks have also sought to work with Mr. Boomtown.

The Dallas native was honored for his work with a Video Director of the Year nomination at the 2010 BET Awards and, having directed videos for both Bun B and the late Pimp C, Mr. Boomtown is in talks to direct a documentary about Texas hip hop godfathers UGK.

"I wanted to direct videos and I didn't let anyone tell me what I couldn't do," Boomtown told HipHopWired in January 2010. "I always tried to prove people wrong. That's my motto. I want somebody to tell me I can't do something so I can prove them wrong. Grind, I had to network and meet people and do some free work just to get my foot in the door. Once I got my foot in the door, then I can started developing those relationships."
