dream hamptonOne of music journalism's most respected voices, the former Source editor that documented the ascensions of 2Pac, the Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z has remained a passionate voice for and prolific contributor to the documentation and examination of hip hop music and culture. Additionally, hampton's work in print, film and the community are a constant reflection of her passion for human and civil rights.

Named after Martin Luther King's iconic speech, hampton collaborated with Jay-Z on the rapper's forthcoming book "Decoded;" a chronicle and analysis of his work. She's also working with Q-Tip on his memoirs "Industry Rules." Most notably, hampton directed The Black August Hip Hop Project, a film about the political hip hop concert series focused on raising awareness about political prisons.

Throughout 2009-2010 hampton appeared on panels discussing social injustice, music and culture. The passionate writer also contributed to SOHH and gotryke.com. hampton uses various platforms to highlight the economic and cultural realities of her native Detroit.

"I feel blessed to think people feel like I have a talent," hampton has said. "I’m beginning just now after so many years in the game to embrace the idea of me as a writer."
