Wyclef Jean

Wyclef Jean For a decade-and-a-half, Wyclef Jean has been one of the most acclaimed and respected artists/songwriter/producers in hip hop. But over the past year, Jean has become just as iconic for his civic, philanthropic and political work as he has for his artistic endeavors. The former Fugees frontman has been a tireless activist and ambassador for his home country of Haiti, in particular.

In the wake of 2010’s disastrous earthquake in Haiti, Jean's efforts in raising awareness, funding and assistance for the people of his native country was crucial in gathering aid. In August, Jean confirmed rumors that he intended to run for president of Haiti in order to further his ability to help restore stability to the island nation.

"We can provide a way to get (Haitians) out of the mess they're in," Jean said of his desire to run. "And the way that that's going to happen (is) education, job creation and investment for Haiti."

Jean still maintained a viable music career with a performance at the 2010 Latin Grammys but his focus was primarily on charitable works with his Yele Foundation and a partnership with Timberland.
