Nas is one of hip hop's most respected artists. More than fifteen years removed from his debut album, the Queensbridge MC is still one of the genre's more credible and articulate artists, writing songs with a strong sense of social responsibility and street awareness.
Nas' reputation as a firebrand has continued over the past year, with the rapper continuing his open criticisms of mainstream media in general, and Fox News in particular. Nas also was a vocal advocate for the 2010 Census and raising awareness regarding its necessity in African American communities.
The rapper also released the critically- acclaimed Distant Relatives with Damien Marley. The release proved to be one of the most well-received releases of the Nas' career. He also appeared in the popular video game "Def Jam Rapstar," and announced the forthcoming release of The Lost Tapes 2, the follow-up to his acclaimed 2002 release.
Despite one of hip hop's most devoted fanbases, Nas downplays Greatest of All Time rhetoric. "There is no greatest of all time," he said in 2010. "I think there will be like four to five great ones at the end of the day, but there will be none that's greater than the other."
