There are few artists, producers and personalities in hip hop as ubiquitous as will.i.am. The Black Eyed Peas frontman is a rapper, dancer, producer, activist, spokesperson, and admitted techie--and he showcases each facet of his persona in his work. He has his hands in a little bit of everything, and remains one of the top influencers--not only in hip hop, but in pop culture overall.
The Peas performed at the 2011 Super Bowl and will took the stage at the 2011 Billboard Awards, as well. It was announced later in the year that the Peas were taking an extended hiatus, but the producer/rapper hasn't shown any signs of slowing. will released a solo single "Dance," in early 2011 as well, and is prepping his new solo album, Black Einstein for release. He also lended his voice to the animated feature Rio.
will.i.am was also recruited by the state department to organize a concert in Beijing this year to promote cultural and educational exchanges between the U.S. and China.
will.i.am has also been an outspoken advocate of science education. He attended and spoke at the FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff in January, and was hired by Intel as a consultant early in the year.
