Indie rapper Tech N9ne has proven that you can build a thriving reputation and career without succumbing to the major label machine. The Kansas City, Missouri rapper has quietly become an indie mainstay and one of the most respected artists in the industry by staying true to his creative and business principles.
Over the past several months, he's signed acclaimed indie emcees Jay Rock and Stevie Stone to the label. Strange Music also launched an 82-city tour in 2011. His respect in hip hop circles is unwavering, as Tech N9ne collaborated with everyone from Lil Wayne to E-40 throughout the year.
Tech's summer 2011 release All 6's and 7's was the fourth-highest selling album the week of its debut. And Tech N9ne had several major labels vying to make a deal with his label, Strange Music.
The rapper plans to continue to build Strange Music into a powerhouse. "I think Strange Music will be the major this year or next year. It's looking that way," he said in May.
