In a year full of ups and downs, Soulja Boy was still one of the most talked-about artists in hip hop. The Atlanta rapper was the subject of seemingly-constant media scrutiny throughout 2011; whether it was because of whom he was dating, his lyrics, rumors of purchasing a jet or several high-profile hip hop movie roles that were reportedly being thrown his way.

It was announced that Soulja Boy would be featured in his very own biopic, Soulja Boy: The Movie, to be released on DVD in the fall of 2011. The rapper was also tapped to star in a remake of the 1992 film Juice and rumored to be auditioning for the role of Tupac Shakur in a biopic about the legendary 90s rap icon.

The rapper received a writer's credit helping to co-pen Willow Smith's late 2010 hit "Whip My Hair," and also released the "Bernard Arnault" mixture in July of 2011. It was also announced in August that Soulja Boy would be releasing his latest album, tentatively-titled Skate Boy at the end of the year. He will also be releasing another project, called Respect My Hustle in early 2012.
