After penning one of the biggest summer hits in recent years, B.o.B.’s “Nothing On You,” Bruno Mars wrote the monster breakup anthem of late 2010, Cee-Lo Green’s smash “Forget You.” And Mars wasn’t through--with his wave of success riding high as he entered the new year. His debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 200 in late 2011.
The singer/songwriter was nominated for seven Grammy Awards at the 2011 ceremony and had one of the night’s most memorable performances, performing “Nothing On You” alongside B.o.B. and Janelle Monae. Additionally, Mars performed a stirring tribute to the late Amy Winehouse at the 2011 Video Music Awards.
“People can hear my songs are coming from something real,” Mars says. “I mean what I say; I’m not just writing to impress critics or young girls, or older girls. The way I talk is the way I write a song.”
