Drake has proven to be the breakout star on Young Money Entertainment roster. After his well-recieved 2009 mixtape "So Far Gone" helped launch his celebrity, Drake’s first studio album, Thank Me Later, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
The Canadian singer/rapper won two 2010 Juno Awards and the BET Award for Best Male Artist. His image has seemingly been everywhere, with endorsements from Sprite and featured magazine covers like GIANT, VIBE, XXL and Billboard. Additionally, Drake won BET’s Rookie of the Year Hip Hop Award and was nominated for four awards at the 2010 . He even lent his voice to popular video game "Gears of War 3."
The young superstar has become the most visible new face in hip hop over the past year, and his popularity, along with the presence of his mentor Lil Wayne, has helped Young Money become hip hop's most formidable label.
"I've dreamed about this for a lot of years and have lost lots of sleep over it," the rapper said in an early 2010 interview. "This is like the highest honor and I am humbled by this. It’s one of the few awards that isn’t a popularity contest; you have to make great music to be honored, and this is completely surreal to me.”
