By Martin Davies Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
Dr. Michael Eric DysonAs a commentator for NPR, CNN and HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher," Dyson has helped keep race and class at the forefront of political dialogue in America. An ordained minister, Dyson has also discussed the role of theology in hip hop. Dyson was also reported to be editing a book detailing the making of Nas' classic 1994 album, Illmatic.

His radio show, "The Michael Eric Dyson Show" debuted in 2009 and is broadcast from Morgan State University. The respected scholar/author has secured interviews with notables ranging from talk show maven Oprah Winfrey to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. He also released his latest book, "Can You Hear Me Now?: The Inspiration, Wisdom, and Insight of Michael Eric Dyson."

Dyson is a regularly fixture on panels and at lectures throughout the country, and he has become one of the most respected figures in hip hop circles for his candid approach and sincere ability to relate to young people. "Black and Latino people disproportionately being incarcerated, over-incarcerated," Dyson has said. "And I think that it suggests that we have an unequal and unfair justice system that continues to target vulnerable populations. And the over-incarceration of black and brown youth is ridiculous." .

What a wonderful mentor he would be! These influential people should start a mentoring program and make future leaders like them.
