A former member of the Black Mafia, Tech N9ne has long been one of hip hop's most unique artists. His bizarre subject matter may have made him one of genre's permanent outsiders, but he's utilized that status to develop one of the strongest independent fanbases in the industry.
N9ne’s music turns up in the unlikeliest places including gaming, television, films and movies. As the co-owner and president of the independent record label Strange Music, N9ne has been able to provide a launching pad for other independent hip hop artists around the country, including Cognito, Brotha Lynch Hung, and Kutt Calhoun. Most recently, Strange Music signed respected West Coast emcee Jay Rock.
N9ne has mobilized his Strange Music roster through an endless stream of mixtapes and tours and is reportedly being courted for collaborations by superstars such as Eminem and Lil Wayne. The rapper has also been cast in indie films to be released next year, including Vengeance and a new Night of the Living Dead.
"What I've done is I've built an underground movement that's leaning over into the mainstream now," Tech says. "And now they're gonna have to see me.
Now you're hearing me on 'Rock the Bells' tours and 'Pay Dues' tours and 'Pay Dues' festivals and now you're seeing me overseas."
