J PrinceA businessman and humanitarian, J Prince has worked for 20 years to elevate Houston’s hip hop scene. The CEO & founder of Rap-A-Lot Records has remained a pivotal figure in bringing Texas-based hip hop to the masses. With his label nearing its 25th anniversary, J Prince was given the Southern Impact Award for developing Houston's rap industry and providing the blueprint for other indie southern rap labels. This year, Rap-A-Lot signed a distribution deal with Fontana, the independent distribution arm of Universal Music Group.

One of the label's first releases under the new deal was Bun B's critically-acclaimed Trill OG, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, selling 39,838 copies in its first week.

J Prince was honored for his pioneering work and ongoing influence at the 2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors ceremony and he continues to be an agent for change in his community. Rap-A-Lot partnered with the Houston Christian rap community for Hip Hop Hope Tuesday, a weekly youth service designed to uplift teenage hip hop fans, which kicked off this summer.

The weekly event was held at the Prince Complex community center, which was opened by J. Prince himself in Houston's 5th ward neighborhood.
