Patrick "9th Wonder" Douthit
By Todd Williams Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
Patrick 9th Wonder is one of the most sought-after producers in hip hop. The North Carolina product earned his reputation in the early 2000s with beloved alt-rap duo Little Brother, and crafted classic tracks for Jay-Z. In 2010, he manned the boards for rappers ranging from David Banner to MURS to Drake.

9th Wonder launched two indie record labels, JAMLA & The Academy, under his imprint It's A Wonderful Word Music Group. "My focus right now is my label," 9th said this year. "That's the biggest goal for me and that's number one thing on my list. I like to keep things steady and keep them moving at my particular pace instead of racing against everybody else."

Nonetheless, Wonder has stayed busy. In 2010, he debuted the imprint's production team, "The Soul Council." The producer also collaborated with fellow Carolina native J. Cole to create the official soundtrack for EA Sports' new game, NBA Elite 11.

In 2009, the 34 yr. old was tapped by Duke University's Mark Anthony Neal, professor of black popular culture in the Department of African & African American Studies, to assist in "Sampling Soul." The special course will focuses on music from the Civil Rights and Black Power movements.
