Lee "Q" O'Denat keeps WorldStarHipHop at the cutting edge of online hip hop news and gossip. O'Denat, a one-time homeless high school dropout, built the site from the ground up and now it's one of the biggest sites in its demographic and a powerful online network for urban entertainment. From hip hop videos to just random instances of public tomfoolery, O'Denat and WorldStar are home for hip hop's guilty pleasures.
WorldStarHipHop had 4.9 million unique US visitors last month, up 27 percent from a year ago, say comScore analysts. O'Denat has also launched the WorldStar agency and a bevy of related WorldStar websites.
"It's not sugarcoated," said O'Denat, 37. "People relate to the realness."
And O'Denat has considerable cache in the hip hop community. WorldStar is known to help break new directors looking to film videos for rap's biggest stars and most promising newcomers; and WorldStarHipHop hosted the Welcome Home Party for rap superstar T.I. upon his release from prison in September 2011. And when WorldStarHipHop celebrated its sixth anniversary at the King of Diamonds in Miami, megastars like Drake, Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne were all in attendance.
