One of the most talked-about hip-hop collectives in recent memory, OFWGKTA (also known as simply Odd Future) have combined bizarre lyrical content, wild live performances, and the attention-getting personality of their audacious frontman to become one of the most popular young acts in urban music.
A series of acclaimed shows, ranging from an appearance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" to performances at South By Southwest and Coachella music festivals, put the group on the mainstream radar, generating publicity for frontman Tyler, the Creator's 2011 album Goblin and singer Frank Ocean's Nostalgia, Ultra LP.
The group courted several controversies, particularly frontman Tyler. Tyler, the Creator won "Best New Artist" at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, much to the disdain of GLAAD, who derided the rapper for lyrics they deemed homophobic. He also found himself embroiled in petty feuds with fellow celebrities Chris Brown, B.o.B. and Bruno Mars and various points throughout the year.
