Eskay

EskayNah Right remained on the cutting edge of hip hop news and culture throughout 2010 and 2011. Founder Ahsmi “Eskay” Rawlins is the mastermind behind a digital powerhouse that’s been celebrated by Rolling Stone, XXL and a host of others. Nah Right was listed among XXL's 100 Best Hip Hop Websites and was spotlighted by Black Enterprise for its first annual Black Bloggers Month.

He credits an understanding of the nuances of branding for much of his success. "That’s your billboard or advertisement to the world, so that’s the first thing people think about when they think about your name," he told Black Enterprise. "It’s everything, so your brand is everything to you."

Eskay remains a relevant and respected voice in hip hop as it pertains to online awareness and marketing. And he's a proponent of social media as a tool for connecting the culture.

"I think social media contributes to the public’s awareness about an artist and that awareness then (hopefully) turns into album or single sales," Eskay said in an interview in May. "Social media in the context of any recording artist is a marketing tool, and like any marketing tool can backfire on you and end up hurting you if you don’t put enough thought into it."
