Andre "Dr. Dre" Young
By Martin James Friday, December 30th, 2011
Andre While fans are still awaiting the release of his next magnum opus, Detox, Dr. Dre finally whet their appetites with the release of a couple of singles in 2011 that reminded everyone just how brilliant the good doctor is and always has been. He released the single "Kush" early in the year and, in an inspired move, allowed the 200 million users of the popular online game "Mafia Wars" to hear the song via a cross promotion.

Dre's production work was heard on rapper Game's celebrated R.E.D. Album, and he's reportedly featured on the upcoming album by his one-time protege 50 Cent. He also produced tracks for Still Cool, the upcoming solo album by former TLC member Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins.

His "Beats By Dre" line of high-end headphones is as popular as ever and Dre refocused his Aftermath Entertainment label in 2011, signing young West Coast upstarts like Kendrick Lamar and Slim Da Mobster. Lamar, in particular, has become one of the most talked-about newcomers in hip hop. "Just West Coast hip hop," Dre said simply. "That's what I'm doing."

Same as it ever was.
