David MaysAs print publications continue to flounder, Hip Hop Weekly has proven its staying power by remaining true to its roots and maintaining its street aesthetic. Founder David Mays has helped steer the publication and its unique celebrity weekly-format sets it apart from most other similar-themed publications.

"It was a whole new approach to doing things that we had to come up with," Mays said about Hip Hop Weekly. "Everything moves much more quickly now--you get information a lot faster due to the Internet and mobile technology."

"Its kind of like the New Testament--the Source was the Old Testament," Mays said in an interview. "This will be the most important magazine for our culture going forward."

This past year, Hip Hop Weekly celebrated its 100th issue with a special 3D cover. Notables ranging from Houston rapper Bun B, to BET executive Stephen Hill voiced their praises for the urban weekly. “We are excited to reach this important milestone in the growth and development of Hip Hop Weekly,” said Mays.
