Common may be almost 20 years removed from his debut as a smart-alecky Chicago backpacker, but the Windy City rhymer's influence on hip hop culture is arguably at an all-time high. With his highly-anticipated new album, The Dreamer, The Believer due to be released before the end of 2011 and his movie career thriving with appearances in Happy Feet Two and the upcoming The Odd Life of Timothy Green, the rapper-formerly-known-as- Common Sense is having a great year.
Common was also at the center of one of 2011s most bizarre controversies, with right-wing news network FOX News attacking the rapper's invitation to the White House. Blasted by pundits like Bill O'Reilly as a left-wing extremist, Common's music and persona came under scrutiny and FOX drew criticism from many who felt that the rapper was the least deserving of the network's criticisms.
Nonetheless, Common came out of the matter unscathed--and announced that he would be releasing his autobiography, One Day It'll All Make Sense.
