One of the most iconic rappers in the world, Kanye West seems to be everywhere and into everything. Despite his controversial reputation, West's creativity and ambition know no limits, and he has aligned himself with some of the biggest names in hip hop, business and fashion in an effort to spread his brand into as many realms of popular culture as possible.
He was listed at #3 on Forbes' Hip Hop Cash Kings list of the year's top earners in rap music. Rapper Big Sean also gave West's G.O.O.D. Music label a commercial boost in the summer of 2011. Sean's debut Finally Famous landed at the #3 spot on the Billboard Albums chart and 87,000 copies in its first week.
Of course, West entered 2011 riding a wave of critical acclaim following the release of his opus, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in late 2010. In August of 2011, West and Jay-Z released the highly-anticipated Watch the Throne; which immediately broke iTunes records and topped the Billboard albums chart. He was nominated for seven awards at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. He took the stage at the SXSW Festival this summer and his performance at the 2011 Coachella Festival was one of the year's most talked about. He also headlined the Big Chill alongside the Chemical Brothers.
His interests in fashion have been well-documented, and this year, Kanye debuted his DW Kanye West Clothing Collection; a womenswear line that premiered at Fashion Week in Paris. He was also given his second signature sneaker in August; the Nike Air Yeezy 2.
