''He Has A Very Soulful Voice'' 6:00AM ET May 3rd, 2013 Contributor : Martin James A Rocky Williform Company
During in an appearance on "The Russ Parr Morning Show," singer-songwriter John Legend praised controversial hip-hop star Rick Ross. In commenting on the way Rozay uses his voice, Legend said that Ross is similar to funk/soul legend Isaac Hayes.
"I feel like Rick Ross is kinda like a soul artist in a way because the way he uses music is very soulful. I was listening to his album yesterday and he just knows how to pick the right music to put around his voice. He has a very soulful voice. He’s almost like an Isaac Hayes of Hip Hop or something,” Legend explained.
Legend also talked about the struggle of being a songwriter.
“The thing about being a songwriter is you’re working for someone else,” said Legend. “They’re your client and you gotta hope that they pick your song. You gotta hope that they make it a single. You gotta hope all these things. And you don’t have as much control over your destiny.”

''What Shapes the Culture Is Who's Consuming It'' 6:00AM ET May 3rd, 2013 Contributor : Martin James A Rocky Williform Company
Iggy Azalea shared her thoughts on hip hop veteran Scarface's recent comments regarding race and hip hop. 'Face complained that the genre has become too White and too Jewish, to which Azalea says she disagrees.
“I think you can have a million white men that are executives in a building, but that doesn’t make a culture a color. And that’s because they can sell you whatever they want, but unless you buy it it doesn’t mean anything,” Iggy explained. “So, I think sometimes people get caught up in this thing of ‘record labels dictate things and oh no, it’s white old guys that are putting this out.’ Well, it’s not old white men creating the content and it’s not old white men buying the content either. Yes, they’re the middleman putting this out, but it’s just a bank.”
“I think what shapes the culture is who’s consuming it and that’s people of all different colors and that’s a great thing,” she added. “I think this idea of ‘rap should be black’ or ‘rap should be this or that’ is worrying to me because it’s like—segregation. Why would you want to segregate cultures and races and things like this? Isn’t that where conflict has always come from in the world? Shit like that? If we have something in music that is unifying, that other cultures are drawn to…then it should be a positive thing.”
