Wiz Khalifa Gets Off Easy In Drug Case

Rapper Wiz Khalifa was charged with marijuana possession in North Carolina, but the Pittsburgh native got off lucky. The charge was dismissed after Wiz agreed to appear in a video for Winston-Salem students that promoted staying in school.

According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the rapper will appear in a clip that will be shown to students at Carter G. Woodson School. He was busted last year for marijuana possession after a show at the Joel Coliseum.

Due to the fact that Wiz was a first-time offender in Forsyth County, NC, assistant District Attorney Mike Silver explained that he was allowed to perform some kind of community service.

Kendrick Lamar Is Wary of Social Media

West Coast rhymer Kendrick Lamar has become one of hip-hop's brightest stars over the past year. Despite his ever-growing visibility, the Compton native says that he isn't too interested in increasing his social media presence. Lamar says too many artists get sucked into oversharing and the various platforms can be a double-edged sword.

"That's why I try my best to stay away from social media as much as possible," he told Interview Magazine. "When you go on your Twitter or look down your Timeline and it's all great positivity--I love that. But at the same time, it can really divert you from what your purpose is or what you're trying to do. And I've seen artists get caught up in that. I've seen some of my friends get caught in that. Whether you're a small celebrity or a grand celebrity, it really triggers something in your brain, seeing all that stuff . . . So I'm real aware of it."

Birdman Still Supports Lil Wayne If He Retires

While Lil Wayne hasn't given a firm timetable for his supposed "retirement," Birdman says that he stands behind his longtime protege and label superstar. Wayne has the backing of YMCMB regardless of whatever decision he makes regarding his career.

"I mean, to me, he works so hard, I've never seen no human do what he do," Birdman said in an interview with MTV. "He's definitely a machine and whatever decision he make, I'm gonna support that and we're gonna find something else to do or whatever he feel like he want to do. I never questioned nothing he do. Honestly. Whatever he do, we're going to do it together. That's just how I feel, so, if that's how he feels, then that's what it is. I never saw no one [like him]. Hopefully one day we do see someone but I've never seen no one work as hard as him, as many hours as he puts in, and puts his life on the line for music, his family and his team. I've never saw that from no individual. Ever."

Chris Kelly Laid To Rest In Atlanta

Kris Kross rapper Chris "Mac Daddy" Kelly was given his final honors today (May 9) in an Atlanta service. Fellow Atlanta and So So Def stars Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, members of Xscape and Kelly's Kris Kross partner Chris "Daddy Mac" Smith were all in attendance.

Smith gave a eulogy for his late partner and friend. As teenagers, the duo was among the biggest hip-hop acts of the early 1990s, and in honor of their famous backwards-clothing style, Da Brat and Dupri reportedly wore their pants backwards.

"I would say 'Kris Kross forever,' but without Chris, it ain't never gonna be the same," Smith said. "But I hope our legacy for hip-hop is never forgotten."
