Wal-Mart: ''We Did Not Reject the Cover'' 6:00AM ET October 20th, 2010 Contributor : Hip Hop Blog Staff A Rocky Williform Company
The only person that ever claimed Kanye West's album cover had been banned was...well...Kanye West.
The rapper tweeted earlier this week that the proposed cover for his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was banned by Wal-Mart stores. He went to great lengths to present himself as the typical artist fighting for his art and Wal-Mart as the evil corporate juggernaut that was trying to stifle him. But the retail giant says it never saw the album art, and as such, hadn't banned anything.
"We're excited about Kanye West's new album and we look forward to carrying it in our stores on November 22nd," a Wal-Mart spokesperson says in a statement provided to EW. "As always, it's our standard practice to carry the edited parental advisory version. We did not reject the cover artwork and it was never presented to us to view."
No word yet on whether or not the cover has been or will be changed or what it could possibly be changed to.
