R&B superstar Trey Songz is facing a lawsuit filed by a Washington, D.C. production company. Derrick Price, Doc Mob Records and IHip Hop Music have filed an $18 million lawsuit, claiming that the Trey Songz hit "Bottoms Up" was essentially stolen. Trey Songz, Atlantic Records, Kodak, manager Gee Robertson, producer Kane Beatz are all named in the suit.
It is alleged in the suit that Doc Mob hired producer Milton James aka "Tony Scales" to produce the original track for "Bottoms Up" for his company, Doc Mob Records. According to the suit, the original track was copyrighted and was originally produced by James in Price's home studio. Producer Kane Beatz added more production to the song, and it wound up on Trey's album.
But only Kane Beatz was listed as producer.
Kodak is being included in the suit because of its use of the song in a commercial featuring Trey Songz. The suit claims that multiple cease-and-desist letters were sent to Atlantic Records and Trey Songz, to no avail.
