High school students in the city of Detroit will now be eligible for a scholarship in the name of late rapper DeShaun "Proof" Holton. His foundation, founded in 2007 by his mother, will now be offering scholarships to high school seniors around Motown. The scholarship is designed to help promote education for lower income children.
To be eligible, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be planning to attend either a two year or a four year college or university program. They must also write an essay on how they would curb violence if they were the Mayor of Detroit.
The first scholarship winner will be announced on April 11th after a candlelight vigil for Proof.
