Rapper, Baseball Star Still Feuding Over Club Name 6:00AM ET March 2nd, 2011 Contributor : Stephen Willis A Rocky Williform Company
It looks like the legal dispute between mogul Jay-Z nad Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz isn't any closer to being resolved. Last year, Jay sued Ortiz over the latter's opening of a club called the Forty/Forty Club. Jay felt the name was an infringement on his famous 40/40 Club brand. Ortiz's club opened in the Dominican Republic and a judge ruled that Ortiz rename the club and its website.
But Jay's suit demands $5 million for trademark-infringement, and Ortiz's manager, Mark Walker, says that Jay's demands are 'way too much.' The two sides were stuck in negotiations for three hours on Monday and could not reach an agreement.
Subsequently, Manhattan federal court's Judge Richard Berman told both Jay and Ortiz' lawyers that they "do not have the authority to settle" the dispute. It is not clear if and when the courts decided to take control of the negotiations.
