If you live in Atlanta, you already have plans for this coming Saturday: You’re going to be at the Masquerade for Goodie Mob’s one-night-only reunion concert.
For those who can’t make the historic show, HHB homie Maurice Garland has put together a masterpiece over at Creative Loafing to describe the emotions and subtle intricacies behind Cee-lo, T-Mo, Khujo and Big Gipp getting back on the same stage. Here are a few highs from the story: On musical influences… T-Mo: “Awareness was higher [back then] than it is right now. We were nothing but a spinoff of Public Enemy and NWA mixed all in one; we followed them. There’s groups that followed us, too. We raised these groups that are out right now.” On Goodie’s maturity… Khujo: “On Soul Food we were humble. On Still Standing we were rebellious. With World Party, we came down to y'all's level.” On today’s rap scene… Big Gipp: "Really, it ain’t about an album right now, it's all about this show. We're gonna start with this show and it will put a resurgence in the people to buy the records. It’s a history lesson, because what we’re doing and what [the younger generation is] doing is not the same."
