The FAA put a stop to Sean "Diddy" Combs' plans to take a helicopter from his concert in New York last week to an after party in New Jersey, was halted by the FAA. Combs was supposed to be at a club in West Orange after his Manhattan performance at the Hammerstein Ballroom, but the club's helipad wasn't cleared for use.
The mogul, instead received a three-car police escort of NYPD and New Jersey police officers.
"This happened last-minute. I organized the police escort through my contacts," said John Mahdessian, the owner of Madam Paulette, a high-end couture dry-cleaning service. "There were three squad cars with the lights flashing. I went along also. We were at the club in New Jersey within 15 minutes."
Police escorts are not usually offered to private citizens. "The bottom line is the police department should treat everybody exactly the same. If you don't get a police escort, P. Diddy shouldn't," New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
