Boxing legend "Smokin'" Joe Frazier died Monday (November 7) night from liver cancer at the age of 67. The man best known for battling Muhammad Ali in three iconic fights during the 1970s, Frazier also famously fought fellow another legendary heavyweight, George Foreman, in 1975 and lost--in the fight that prompted the now-infamous Howard Cosell call of "Down goes Frazier!"
Numerous hip hop artists acknowledged the great's passing on Twitter.
"One Love! #smoking JOE," Jadakiss tweeted immediately after the news broke. "Up goes Frazier.. RIP," tweeted J. Cole.
Public Enemy frontman Chuck D expressed regret that he'd never actually met the former heavyweight champ. "R.I.P. Smokin Joe Frazier," Chuck D. tweeted. "Always wanted to meet Joe Frazier, never did.Which makes me appreciate more doing positive work wit another of my heroes Mr KareemAbdulJabbar"
Boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather also expressed condolences and respect for Frazier and his family.
"RIP Smokin Joe. My thoughts and prayers go out to to the Frazier family. We lost an all time great tonight.," Mayweather tweeted. "My Condolences go out to the family of the late great Joe Frazier. #TheMoneyTeam will pay for his Funeral services."
