Vibe Magazine will relaunch with a completely new staff and ownership on December 8th. After an unceremonious door closing over the summer, Vibe and vibe.com were bought by InterMedia Partners. The Dec/Jan issue will feature embattled pop star Chris Brown on the cover.
The Brown cover is a definite risk for the once struggling brand that will no doubt catch people's attention. The magazine will also expand its editorial content to politics, sports, social issues and fashion. "It's always been a very broad book that's covered the culture of hip-hop, not just hip-hop music," says new editor-in-chief Jermaine Hall. "It needs to get back to that."
The relaunch issue is said to contain over 40 pages of advertisement which is a major coup in the struggling print market.
Vibe used to cover Black music culture as a whole, not just hip hop cutlture. There's already too many magazines on the stands covering hip hop culture only.
