J. Dilla Celebrated In His Hometown

Six years have passed since the passing of one of hip hop's most talented producers, and hip hop will pay tribute to the late, great J. Dilla this coming Friday (February 10) at the Fillmore in Detroit. Dilla suffered from lupus and died at the age of 32. It was just six years ago today that Hip-Hop lost one of its greatest producers of all-time, Detroit born and raised J Dilla.

The acclaimed producer worked with Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, De La Soul and D'Angelo among others in his short lifetime. Among the artists expected to appear at "Dilla Day" this weekend are Busta Rhymes, Phife Dawg and Jay Electronica

“It’s going to be very special to have people right here in Detroit see his name up in lights and embrace his great legacy,” Dilla’s mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, said in a statement this past December. “It’s very special that we’re doing it right here in his hometown. He loved his city.”
