Jury selection begins today (April 9th) in the murder trial for former Bad Boy Records rapper G. Dep. In December 2010, Dep confessed to shooting a stranger while robbing him back in 1993. The man subsequently died, and Dep, born Trevell Coleman, now faces murder charges.
He turned down a previously-offered plea deal. He now faces 25 years to life if he's convicted.
“Conscience drove him to do something. … He thinks he did the right thing,” his defense lawyer Anthony L. Ricco previously said. “There’s a lot of people who think he’s a fool for doing this. He doesn’t think he’s a fool. […] He says this has been like a blessing. It’s saved his life.”
G. Dep faces 25 years to life behind bars if convicted. He is currently being held without bail and has pleaded not guilty.
