Dancehall Star's Conviction Upheld 1:30PM ET August 8th, 2012 Contributor : Chris G. A Rocky Williform Company
A judge required the request for a new trial filed by reggae/dancehall star Buju Banton. Banton was found guilty of cocaine trafficking and conspiracy charges and was sentenced to a 10-year sentence this February.
Judge James Moody stated that, because of a previous appeals court ruling, there is no need for a re-trial. In June, Atlanta's appeals court upheld Banton's conviction by ruling that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute. A month later, Banton's attorney filed the motion seeking a new trial.
