Kanye Sued Over Uncleared Sample

Hip hop superstar Kanye West is being sued over samples from his acclaimed 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. According to HipHopWired, West faces a suit from the label TufAmerica for the use of Eddie Bo's "Hook & Sling," which was used twice on Kanye's album; on the tracks "Who Will Survive In America" and "Lost In the World."

The suit has been filed despite the fact that Roc-a-Fella Records and Universal Music Group paid $62,500 to clear the sample. According to the suit, they failed to "enter into written license agreements that accounted for their multiple other uses” of the 1969 song.

TufAmerica acquired the rights to the song in 1996, and is suing for copyright infringement for an unspecified amount.
