The 2012 American Music Awards were a showcase of the industry's biggest stars, but two in particular seemed to shine brightest throughout the night. Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj won multiple awards and performed together and separately over the course of the broadcast.

Minaj won for favorite rap/hip-hop artist and album for her sophomore release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. She also rocked four different outfits during the show.

Bieber grabbed the most awards of the night, including Artist of the Year and favorite pop/rock male artist. "I want to say this is for all the haters who thought I was just here for one or two years. I feel like I'm going to be here for a very long time," he said.

Among the other acts that electrified the stage were Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Usher, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. Stevie Wonder paid tribute to late television icon Dick Clark, and Psy surprised everyone by bringing out MC Hammer to perform "Gangnam Style."
