''There's Nothing On Earth Cooler Than Brooklyn...'' 1:30PM ET December 4th, 2012 Contributor : Stephen Willis A Rocky Williform Company
Jay-Z broke down the Brooklyn Nets' cool factor in a recent interview with GQ. The minority owner of the franchise outlined his "Top 5 Coolest Things About the Brooklyn Nets," acknowledging everything from their arena to their jerseys.
"All-black everything!" he said of the team's jerseys. "And the lettering—the typography reminds you of the old subway. It's classic."
He also mentioned the team's distinctive court. "It's herringbone," he said, "which is crazy. In fact, the NBA fought me on it. They said if it gets shot on TV, the lines will mess up the screen. I'm like, this ain't 1988—we've got HD. We ended up taking it to the old arena in New Jersey to test it."
"[Barclays Arena is] beautiful, amazing, really well-done," he continued. "It's just classy. It's still an arena, so there's only so much you can do. But for an arena, it's actually really beautiful." Last but not least, Jay mentioned the borough itself--and its very famous son. "Well, Brooklyn is cool; that's like the definition. There's nothing on earth cooler than Brooklyn," he said.
"Me? Ha, I am Brooklyn," he added as the final "cool" thing about the Nets.
