In a recent survey by the National Prison Radio playlist, late rapper Tupac Shakur was the most popular recording artist among British prison inmates. The fallen rapper, who was murdered in 1996, beat Rihanna, Vybz Kartel, Drake and fellow late hip hop icon The Notorious B.I.G.

Heavy metal icons Metallica also made the top ten. Eminem and Lil Wayne were also listed.

"Listening to something heavy can be a healthy release from prison life,” explained a National Prison Radio host.
