Up-and-coming Chicago rapper Johnny Boy Da Prince was shot and killed earlier this week. Born Johnny Taylor, he was shot in the Garfield Park neighborhood and his body was found in an alley. According to reports, surgeons attempted to save his life but his wounds were too extensive.
His manager, Dillard Florence, called the shooting a case of "mistaken identity."
The rapper was reportedly scheduled to meet with Atlantic Records.
"I see a lot of emails," said Andrew Fechter, an assistant at Atlantic Records. "I listened to it, I liked what I heard, I asked for more. I played it at a meeting and everyone liked it. We were working on a meeting, bringing him in. Get him to meet everyone before a decision is made."
Johnny is the latest in a string of young rapper murders in Chicago. Lil JoJo was killed in September, JayLoud followed in December. Chief Keef's stepbrother, YPN Boomtown was murdered last week.
